Burn The Qur'an Day: Understanding Terry Jones?
OK, Here are my thoughts on Terry Jones Burn a Qur'an day...
I just finished reading his website at
www.doveworld.org
First of all by him doing this, it is perfectly legal and there is nothing against the law that prohibits this. It's what America calls, "Freedom Of Speech". However I think this freedom of speech thing is being pushed a bit too far and is being taking advantage of...
By planning this demonstration this man/group of people will offend and probably even create some type of chaos between muslims and christians...
This man is quoting scripture to justify his cause. This is what I wrote about a few posts ago where many people will only pick and choose certain scripture instead of following the two greatest commandments that are told in the bible.
Mark 12:30-31
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
However here are some verses this man is according to him, giving him his right to do this...
Acts 28:3-5:
And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.
And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.
And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.
Ephesians 5:11-14:
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
Terry Jones is also quick to point out scripture from the Qur'an as well, like these next verses...
The Qur'an
Qur'an:9:88
"The Messenger and those who believe with him, strive hard and fight with their wealth and lives in Allah's Cause."
Qur'an: 9:5
"Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war."
Qur'an: 9:112
"The Believers fight in Allah's Cause, they slay and are slain, kill and are killed."
Ishaq: 325
"Muslims, fight in Allah's Cause. Stand firm and you will prosper. Help the Prophet, obey him, give him your allegiance, and your religion will be victorious."
What I'm getting at is that both of these religions have the peaceful followers of their faith, and their extreme followers who will only look to hurt the other...
You can't say that all christians are evil minded or hypocrites, and you can't say that all muslims are terrorists. There are some good christians who follow the 2 greatest commandments, and there are some good muslims who don't support terrorism. But it only takes one person of each religion to ignite what could become a violent and religious war...

Int’l rights group hails start of Maguindanao massacre trial
Int’l rights group hails start of Maguindanao massacre trial
By Ben O. Tesiorna
DAVAO CITY – The Human Rights Watch based in New York hailed the start of the trial of the Maguindanao massacre incident which involved members of the powerful political clan of the Ampatuan.
In a released statement, the HRW said that the start of the trial on September 8, 2010 is “a step for justice”. The group however urged the Philippine government to “arrest all those implicated and provide better protection for witnesses”.
Elaine Pearson, deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch, said it is without doubt that the Ampatuan still wields considerable power even after the November 23 massacre that resulted to the death of 57 people including 30 journalists.
Proof to this, Pearson said, is the killing of five people who are said to be witnesses to the abuses committed by the Ampatuans.
The murder trial began on September 8 before the sala of Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court in Taguig City. The defendants include the lead suspect, Andal Ampatuan, Jr., then mayor of the town of Datu Unsay and the son of the former Maguindanao governor, Andal Ampatuan, Sr., 16 police officers, and two alleged members of a paramilitary force.
In Wednesday’s trial, Ampatuan househelper Lakmudin Suliya claimed to have overheard the conversation between Andal Ampatuan Jr. and his namesake father.
According to Suliya, the conversation allegedly went this way:
AMPATUAN JR: “Andito na sila.”
AMPATUAN SR: “Andyan ba si Toto?” (referring to their political rival then Buluan mayor and now Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu)
AMPATUAN JR: “Wala, ama. Asawa at kapatid na babae lang.”
AMPATUAN SR: “Alam mo na ang gagawin mo. Patayin mo na sila. Itira mo ang media.”
AMPATUAN JR: “Hindi. Lubus-lubusin na natin. Makakapagsalita pa kundi natin uubusin.”
“The quest for justice for the victims of the Maguindanao massacre begins now. But the dozens of suspects still at large and the threat to witnesses shows that there is a long road ahead,” said Pearson.
The trial involves only 19 of 195 persons accused in the massacre. Altogether, 127 suspects remain at large, including 23 members and allies of the Ampatuan family, 10 police officers, and 4 soldiers. The remaining 49 accused that are in custody have yet to be arraigned.
The massacre took place on November 23, 2009, in the town of Ampatuan, Maguindanao province, in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. Gunmen killed members of a convoy that was en route to file the candidacy for provincial governor of then Vice Mayor Esmael Mangudatu of the town of Buluan. Those killed included family members, supporters, and journalists, together with bystanders.
With fewer than half of the suspects in custody, witnesses, investigators, and others who might be deemed to be a threat to the Ampatuan family are at risk, Human Rights Watch said. At least five individuals with knowledge of Ampatuan activities have been killed since the Maguindanao massacre. Suwaib Upahm, who had worked for the Ampatuans for several years, told Human Rights Watch of three killings of drivers ordered by the Ampatuans following the massacre, including the driver of a police car that Andal Ampatuan, Jr. would often use. No charges have been filed in these cases.
Unidentified men shot and killed Upahm in Parang, Maguindanao on June 14, three months after he told prosecutors representing journalists killed in the massacre that he would testify against the Ampatuans in exchange for protection. At the time of his death, the Justice Department was still considering his request for witness protection.
Two unidentified men on a motorcycle shot and killed Enrique Barroga, the director of the Cotabato City Assessor's Office, while he was travelling by car on a main street in Cotabato City. He was killed two months after he had complied with a subpoena issued by government investigators regarding abuses by Ampatuan local government officials.
Human Rights Watch called on President Benigno Aquino III to direct the National Bureau of Investigation to investigate these killings immediately, including possible involvement by persons already in custody, and to prosecute all those responsible.
“Abuses in Maguindanao have not stopped with the arrest of six members of the Ampatuan family,” Pearson said. “Prompt investigation of ongoing crimes is essential to prevent further killing and to stop suspects from interfering with the trial.”

Quran Burning Peacfull fightback
American Muslims are very offended by the plans to burn copies of the Quran on Saturday September 11th. They are also very concerned on how to react. A group of Muslims are working with Al-Furqaan Foundation to collect donations from all Muslims communities during Taraweeh prayers(Ramadan night prayers) to buy enough English copies of the Quran and distribute 50 Qurans to non-Muslims in the States for every Quran to be burned on Saturday. The organization is committed to distribute 150,000 Qurans. The initiative is very welcomed by Muslims and gaining a lot of support all around the state. The picture shows a representative of the Chicago based organization in Atlanta Farouq mosque.
