Cancer, a very personal interview

Latest iReports - 3 hours 12 min ago

One part Paris Hilton, one part Mick Jagger, one part Bono. Add in some toxic humour, some sickly sheen and some blobby lumps and what do you get? A smoking, singing, dancing, deluded narcissistic egomaniac of a character with a suave accent? Something you'd like to smack down…with a pool noodle?

You'd be surprised.

Confused?

We're talking about CANCER.

I had a little tete-a-tete with the "celebrity" that is "cancer."  It turns out it feels quite connected to such personalities as Paris Hilton and Mick Jagger, and while you may not openly decide to party with cancer, it can really grow on you…

Bruce Horak is the mind behind the matter. He created his one-man cabaret-style performance, aptly titled "This is Cancer," starring himself as, you guessed it, "cancer." I caught up with his act at the Fringe Festival in Edmonton, North America's largest Fringe theatre festival. A cancer survivor, and Canada's only legally blind actor (having lost 90% of his vision to the disease), Bruce has created the human embodiment of cancer in "This is Cancer" to provide people with a venue to humorously "face" the disease. With Bruce's superb comedic timing and stellar dance moves, the show is really more about lightly examining life's lumps and bumps than it is about getting too serious.

America's Got Talent Top Ten Compete

Latest iReports - 3 hours 23 min ago

Tuesday night's America's Got Talent had the top ten compete for America's votes.  Only four will go through to next weeks first final's show.  Most of the acts put on the best performances I have seen them do.  Here are the acts up for America's votes.

Studio One Young Beast Society from Orlando Fl.  Their act tonight was amazing, the best I have seen them.  They had lots of moves that you normally don't see dance group's do.  They were dynamic, the judges all loved them.

Christiana and Ali from Idaho Falls, Idaho.  Two sisters, one is 12 the other is 21.  I'm sorry, but I just don't see how they have progressed this far in the competition.  Ali can't hold a tune, Christina is much better but not something I would pay to see.

Jeremy VanSchoonhoven from Talent, Oregon.  Jeremy is a daredevil on a bicycle. Simply amazing, scary as all get out to watch.  Definitely an act a lot of people would pay to see.  His act is dangerous and a real thriller.

Taylor Mathews from Alexandria, Louisiana.  He sang "What a Wonderful World" and he did it justice.  Excellent performance, I love his style of singing.

Anna and Patryk from New York.  Child Ballroom dancers.  Anna fell on the steps before hitting the dance floor.  This fall did not affect their performance at all but it did make Anna cry after the dance was over, she made my eyes start misting too.  All the judges told her and Patryk that they performed like professionals and they acted like professionals  by getting up and doing their dance.  Great performance.

Fighting Gravity from Virginia.  This performance out did all their previous ones, if that's even possible.  They paid tribute to the first man on the moon, placing the USA Flag.  They used laser lights, and they just out did themselves again.  Excellent.

Michael Grimm from Mississippi.  This singer out did himself tonight also.  He has a wonderful soulful voice.  He left his guitar out of this performance and we got to see the whole Michael this time.  He was fantastic!  All the judges told him that by leaving out his guitar and singing the song he sang improved his performance.

Michael Grasso from New Jersey.  This magician should already be headlining a Las Vegas show.  He is simply amazing, awesome and extremely  talented.  He wowed all the judges and the audience.

Prince Poppycock from Los Angeles, CA.  Opera singer who wears outlandish but awesome costumes and makeup.  Tonight he played to America, singing patriotic songs and a full fledged extravaganza on stage.  He just keeps out doing himself with each and every performance.  Prince Poppycock IS Vegas.

Jackie Evancho from Pittsburgh, PA.  Jackie is a 10 yr. old Opera singer with a voice of someone around 40 yrs old.  This child truly has a gift from God.  This performance was even better than all the others, she sounded just like an Angel would.  Fantastic.

The top four will be announced on Wednesday night's show on NBC.

On the Move in New York

Latest iReports - 3 hours 40 min ago

My interest in candid photography goes back to when I was a kid so documenting people and objects in my day to day travels is second nature. All the photos here, except for the last one, were shot around New York City over the last year. See if you can count how many different modes of transportation are represented here. Some are a bit suble so you'll have to look closely.
